Bourbon Old Fashioned
The Basil Hayden® Old Fashioned is a traditionalist's cocktail that's crafted with our signature bourbon, a touch of Demerara syrup, and Angostura® bitters.
Demerara syrup* (can be replaced with simple syrup)
Angostura® bitters
Orange peel
For Demerara Syrup: 2 parts Demerara or Turbinado sugar and 1 part water
How to craft
1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice
2. Stir until well chilled.
3. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
4. Garnish with an orange peel, expressing the oils over the top of the drink and placing the peel in the glass.
*Demerara Syrup: Combine sugar and water in a saucepan over medium high heat. Stir occasionally until sugar is fully dissolved. Let cool and store refrigerated in an airtight container for up to three weeks. Note that making the Demerera syrup will add about 10 minutes of prep time, in addition to a 15-20 minute period for cooling.
